Department of Human Services provides and administers cash, medical and food stamp programs to Illinois residents through local offices. DHS can connect eligible customers to a wide range of human services at one location. Local office staff, using a family-centered approach, identify customer needs, determine benefit eligibility; link customers to training programs, child care and employers and make referrals to offer community programs including substance abuse, developmental disabilities and mental health services. DHS focuses on determining the kind of help that customers and families need to reach self-sufficiency or maximum independence.
