Programs Authorized by the Wagner-Peyser Act of 1933

IDES operates the Illinois Employment Service, a labor exchange system, that assists job seekers in finding employment, assists employers in filling jobs, and facilitates a match between job seekers and employers. Additionally, IDES operates the Work Opportunity Tax Credit program, the Trade Readjustment Act, and the North American Free Trade Act. IDES processes applications for foreign labor certification, inspects migrant worker housing, and measures and analyzes the state's economy and workforce through its Labor Market Information program.

Programs Created by the Social Security Act of 1935

IDES operates the state's Unemployment Insurance program, which is funded by a federal payroll tax on employers. The funds are held in trust at the national level and are allocated to the states based on unemployment claims workload. The Ul program pays benefits to eligible workers who are unemployed through no fault of their own and meet all of the requirements of state law. IDES's Revenue Division collects unemployment insurance taxes from the states' liable employers in order to fund the benefits for eligible, unemployed Illinois workers.

Activities Authorized under Chapter 41 of Title 38, United States Code (Veteran's Programs)

IDES offices have Veteran's Employment Representatives to assist with job search efforts and other veteran's benefits, such as: Job Placement, Job Search Assistance, Veteran Re-employment Rights, Disabled Veteran Outreach, Unemployment Compensation, Welfare-To-Work Opportunity Tax Credit, and Veterans' Grants.
